Excretion • Removal of the wastes of cell activities from the body. • The waste of excretion are liquids and gas

Metabolic Wastes • Carbon dioxide – gaseous waste formed during aerobic respiration • Water – liquid produced by aerobic respiration • Salts • Urea- Nitrogen waste resulting from the break down of proteins.

Excretion in the lungs • CO 2 and water is the waste excreted from the lungs

Human Urinary System • • • Consist of Kidney Ureters Urinary bladder Urethra Renal artery –carries blood into kidney • Renal Vein – carries blood away from kidney.

• Kidney’s are • Bean shaped • Located at the back of the abdomen • Act like filters

Kidney cross section • Cortex- outer portion of the kidney, where filtration takes place • Medulla- inner portion of the kidney

The Nephrons • Where filtration takes place • Urea, Water, and Salt are removed from the blood here • So are all of the other useful materials we need to survive

• The useful substances are returned before the blood leaves the kidney. • Each kidney sends excretions, called urine, into a tube called the ureter.

Go with the flow! • The ureters are simply tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder. • The bladder temporarily stores urine. • And the urethra is the tube through with urine leaves the body when you go pee-pee.
