The Eureka Stockade happened in 1854 the battle
The Eureka Stockade happened in 1854, the battle between them were the colonial forces of Australia and the colonial forces of the United Kingdom. The reason why the Eureka Stockade happened was because there was an argument over what the goldminers felt was unfair laws of their work from there government. The miners weren’t allowed to save land on where they worked. If the miners wanted to mine for gold it was the law by the government that they had to buy a licence and keep it with them at all times but if they forget it or lose it they would get arrested or have a fine. A majority of miners thought this was an unfair law and was prepared to fight for the change of the law. Police took over the miners to follow the laws this happened in late November 1854. The gold miners disobeyed to follow that rule and burned their licences and surprised the policemen. Many miners were badly injured. In November 30 th 500 miners came under the Eureka flag and chosen Peter Lalor as their leader.
The Eureka Flag was made by a Canadian gold miner in Victoria Ballarat 1854. The 5 stars on the flag stand for the Southern Cross and the white cross attached with the stars stands for Unity of Defiance. The background that is blue is known to represent the shirts that were worn by many diggers, instead of representing the sky which was mostly thought of.
I thought it was very harsh since the doctors couldn’t help because they needed money and if you needed to go to school you would have to pay money each time. It was also very hard to find decent food or drinks.
The gold rush changed Australia because everyone wanted to make their fame and fortune and another thing that changed Australia was that British people thought of Australia as a country where you can just drop off the convicts but when they heard that gold was there they started to think that Australia could be a useful country also they volunteered to make their fame and fortune.
