The Egg Drop Experiment! In our study of force and motion, we are learning about force, inertia, gravity, mass, weight, friction, and acceleration. We’ve learned about Sir Isaac Newton’s three Laws of Motion. These all play an important part in our understanding of how objects move. Our Egg Drop activity will allow students to 1) design a container with a specific function, and 2) experiment with ways to keep a raw egg whole after being dropped from a high ledge. Your tasks: 1) Using no-cost materials found at home, design a container that you believe will keep a raw egg whole after being dropped from a high ledge. You may use a container you already have, such as a shoebox, or you may create one yourself. Think about what materials you should pack inside to keep the egg protected and absorb the shock of impact. You should practice with a raw egg from home to find the best design and materials. 2) Include a written description of your experiment. It should answer these questions: What materials did you use? Why did you choose those materials? How did you create your container? Did you do trials at home? What happened? Check for complete sentences, punctuation, and capitalization. WE WILL CONDUCT THE EGG-DROP EXPERIMENT ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2015. ALL EXPERIMENTS ARE DUE THAT DAY. Your rubric: You will be assessed with the following rubric. Read it carefully to know exactly what to do to learn the most from the experiment and to earn the highest points. Criterion Points possible 20 Egg-drop container is a complete container with materials that should keep a raw egg from breaking. Project shows thought, creativity, and effort. 25 Project contains a neat written description of the materials used and the steps followed to create the container. Egg-drop container keeps a raw egg whole. 20 Total points earned 100 Egg-drop container is at school on time. 30 5 Points earned
