Overview ¡ ¡ ¡ Introducing the project and the mapping exercise (Matthias Wismar) Selected results of mapping HIA in Europe (Julia Blau) Introducing the effectiveness analysis (Matthias Wismar) Transport and air pollution (Konrade von Bremen) Six per day (Gabriel Gulis) Transport and children (Martin Sprenger) 2
What is the HIA-effectiveness project about? 22 teams from 19 countries Three year project 15 Aug 2004 – 14 Aug 2007 ¡ The overall aim of the project is to map the use of HIA, evaluate its effectiveness and identify the determinants for its successful implementation. 3
Mapping exercise and effectiveness analysis comparison 4

What are the limitations of the mapping exercise? ¡ ¡ ¡ National level comprehensively researched, but only one reference region and one reference municipality for each country included For England the Netherlands a selection of HIAs was made Documentation on HIA often incomplete The methodology is sensitive enough to identify fully integrated HIAs, but if no reports available difficulties incorporate them in the fact sheets Devolution, federalization, delegation, privatization poses limitations to the comparison by level 6
