CHAPTER I That learning vocabulary as a foreign language seems easy, but some students need something fun because the students do not have high motivation and less attractive in learning English vocabulary, so that they have difficulties in identifying and understanding the meanings of unfamiliar words and memorizing new words. Background of the Problem 1. Students at SMPN 7 Kota Tangerang especially in the eighth grade need something fun in learning vocabulary. 2. Students have difficulty in identifying and understanding the meaning of words. 3. Students learn vocabulary with no interesting technique. 4. Students learn vocabulary always demanded by memorizing. The researcher limits this research on the effect of Boggle game on the eighth grade students’ vocabulary mastery at SMPN 7 Kota Tangerang. 5. The teacher as the main source only provides limited vocabulary. Identification of the Problem Limitation of the Problem
Is there any effect of Boggle game on students' vocabulary mastery of the eighth grade students at SMPN 7 Kota Tangerang? ” Formulation of the Problem The research objective is considering on the research question. The researcher wants to find out the effect of Boggle Game on students’ vocabulary mastery. Objective of the Research 1. Theoretically The result of the research is expected to enlarge knowledge of vocabulary mastery by using game between students in learning English and to give contribution on the development of teaching English. 2. Vocabulary Boggle Game Vocabulary is the most fundamental thing that must be mastered by students in learning English. If students have a lot of vocabulary, it can make it easier for students to develop four language skills, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Learning vocabulary can also help students to improve their communication skills, especially in daily activities (Anggraini, 2019). Boggle game is a game which includes into Sorting, ordering or arranging games. Boggle game is commonly known as a word search game. Word search game was with additional rules. And boggle game consists of the letters of words placed in a grid, which usually has a rectangular or square shape. The objective of this puzzle is to find and mark all the words hidden inside the box, the letters could be marked in any directions. Boggle game or word search game is a game where the players link at least 3 letters to make a word (Fauziah, 2018).

The Procedure of Using Boggle Game 1. 2. 3. 4. Student Getting ready to play Boggle. Students set up a pencil and paper. Students can scramble the letters and after that, compile the word. Turn the grid right side up and give it a few gentle shakes until all of the dice fall into place. 5. The teacher set a time with the mini hourglass, that comes with Boggle is pre-set until of sand the out. 6. Find the goal of Boggle is to score points by finding words in the random letters in the grid. 7. The students find a word, write it down on paper.

Conceptual Framework Students know that vocabulary development is essential for them to learn English, but they often do not have a clear understanding of how to go about really learning vocabulary. Hypothesis of the Research H 0 : There is no significant effect of Boggle Game on eighth-grade student’s vocabulary mastery at SMPN 7 Kota Tangerang. For students, remember new word is hard because word is slippery things. The teacher should be creative and up to date for giving a new word. They can do anything they want to improve their vocabulary mastery. H 1: There is a significant effect of Boggle Game on eighth-grade student’s vocabulary mastery at SMPN 7 Kota Tangerang.

At SMP NEGERI 7 Kota Tangerang , located on PLACE Jl. Daan Mogot Km. 21 Kecamatan. Batu Ceper. Kota Tangerang. TIME Started from July 2020, in the first semester in school year of 2020/2021.
Quantitative methods are called traditional methods, because this method has been used for a long time so it has been Research Method traditional as a method for research. this method as a Population and Sample The population for this research is the classes eighth-grade scientific method because it has met scientific rules, namely concrete/empirical, objective, measurable, rational and systematic (Sugiyono, 2019, p. 15) students (A-D). Sample is the part of the number and characteristic possessed by the population (Sugiyono, 2019, p. 127). The classes are divided into two classes or group namely experimental class and controlled class.
Instrument of Dependent Variable Vocabulary mastery is very important for the students. It is more than grammar for communication purpose, particularly in the early stage when students are motivated to learn the basic words. Without having proportional English vocabulary, students will get some difficulties in using English.
Instrument of Independent Variable The first meeting after pre-test, the students can play the boggle game with found the familiar words in the class. After the whole stages are done, the students faced the post-test. The researcher made the post-test a bit fun to make them relax by playing a game before they did the test. After the game over, the researcher started to give simple instruction and gave them some suggestion before did the test.
Technique of Analysis Data The researcher compared between the experimental class and controlled class. To find whethere is any significance effect between the experimental class and control class.
