The male Platypus has hollow spurs behind each ankle. The spurs are connected to poison glands. Diet A Platypus is a carnivore because it eats insects, shrimp tadpoles, fish eggs, frogs and small fish. The Platypus does not have teeth. They chew gravel to break down their food. The webs can be extended beyond the claws. The Platypus folds these webs against the palms when walking on land or digging.
