DIGITAL DIVIDE DEFINITION Digital Divide is a term that refers to the gap between demographics and regions that have access to modern information and communications technology , and those that don’t or have restricted access. This technology can include the telephone, television, personal computers and the internet.
ISSUES SURROUNDINGS ACCESS There are several issues surrounding access namely: the socio-economic divide, divide in infrastructure, divide in content, gender divide and the universal access divide.

DIGITAL DIVIDE AND SOCIAL CAPITAL- Is defined by the OECD as “networks with shared norms, values and understandings that facilitate cooperation within or among groups”. Given the value we gain from online socialising, it is obvious that the digital divide would impact on people’s ability to access their social capital, thereby preventing their ability to access data, information and knowledge that may enhance their own feelings of self-worth coupled with their ability to further themselves socially, economically and professionally.
DIGITAL DIVIDE AND KNOWLEDGE CAPITAL- Also called intellectual capital, is the intangible asset that represents valuable ideas, methods, processes and other intuitive talents. The digital Divide can have an effect on this as the divide restricts the capabilities of the business’s employees. This means that the employees will have restricted access to information which will reduce their skills, knowledge as well as their experience.
DIGITAL DIVIDE AND HUMAN CAPITAL- The collective skills, knowledge, or other intangibles assets of an individual that can be used to create economic value for an organisation or country. The effect that the digital divide has on the human interest is that the less privileged people will not get the chance to improve their skills an knowledge which means that the gap will only get bigger and not closed.
