Mitosis Vs Meiosis We will spend the first half of class working quietly on the Mitosis Vs. Meiosis worksheet. What you do not complete will be for homework and you are to bring it to class next week.
Asexual Reproduction Daughter cells come from one single parent. All the offspring are genetically identical. Usually occurs in single celled organisms including plants and fungi.
Asexual Reproduction: Binary Fission Often found in Prokaryotes and sometimes in Eukaryotes Occurs in all bacteria Cell separates in two identical cells Can cause cell to develop resistance to antibiotics Is easy to invade environments.
Asexual Reproduction: Binary Fission
How does binary fission occur? The cell doubles in growth so that when it divides, the two new cells are the correct size. The DNA molecules (single stranded) replicates itself first. Then each copy attaches to a different side of the cell membrane. A furrow forms and the cell begins to divide into two daughter cells.
Questions What happens to the size of daughter cells bacteria after binary fission occurs ? What must happen first for binary fission to occur How many parents do we have in binary fission?
