The difference between traditional and modern teaching
Definition of Teaching Definition of teaching given by various psychologists: Ideas or principles taught by an authority Teaching is defined as an interactive process, primarily involving classroom talk, which takes place between teacher and pupils and occurs during definable activities “Edmund Amidon”
Traditional Teaching Traditional teaching is concerned with the teacher being the controller of the learning environment. Power and responsibility are held by the teacher and they play the role of instructor (in the form of lectures) and decision maker (in regards to cirriculum content and specific outcomes). They regard students as having 'knowledge holes' that need to be filled with information. In short, the traditional teacher views that it is the teacher that causes learning to occur (Novak, 1998)
Method of Traditional Teaching Lectures and Direct Instruction Traditional teaching, as most of us have experienced, is classroom-based and consists of lectures and direct instructions conducted by the teacher. This teacher-centered method emphasizes learning through the teacher’s guidance at all times. Students are expected to listen to lectures and learn from them. Seatwork Tests are the most significant indicator of student performance and degree of learning. Students who belong in the same class sit down and take a single set of examinations, which they should pass. Most of the examinations are taken from fundamental resources, such as textbooks and other publications that are relevant to the subject. Listening and Observation Teachers talk to the students about the subject matter and expect them to learn everything through the lectures held in the classroom.
Modern teaching is defined as being a method of teaching knowledge and skills based on the current world needs. This method of teaching has introduced children to computer studies, online testing, and other types of technology used
CONCLUSION This study concluded that the modern method of teaching was more effective than the traditional method of teaching. Also, the approach is more of the traditional methods of teaching and there is need to change to the modern method because it brings about children becoming active learners. Teachers need to improve their quality at classroom level because children are the leaders of tomorrow, so their foundation must be built on a solid ground.
