1. Asexual Reproduction 2. Sexual Reproduction 3. Mitosis 4. Meiosis 5. Parts of Human Reproductive System 6. Human development (from sperm and Egg to YOU!)

Cells produced by mitosis are identical (same chromosomes, same materials). We call these identical cells clones.

Gametes - half the chromosomes so they can be fertilized

Meiosis Fertilization Zygote Normal number restored Half the normal number Mitosis Normal number maintained

Gametes are produced by meiosis. Human gametes are: Eggs and Sperm. Gametes are made in special organs called gonads. Human gonads are: Ovaries and Testis.

DEVELOPMENT Zygote Differentiation (cells begin to change) Mitosis begins (cleavage) Growth (more cells)

The sequence of events below occurs in the life cycle of a bacterium. (A) The bacterium copies its single chromosome. (B) The copies of the chromosome remain attached to each other. (C) As the cell grows, the two copies of the chromosome separate. (D) The cell is separated by a wall into equal halves. (E) Each new cell has one copy of the chromosome. This sequence most closely resembles the process of (1) recombination (2) mitotic cell division (mitosis) (3) zygote formation (4) meiotic cell division (meiosis)
