The definition The environment is everything around us: air, water, land all creatures that live on the planet: animals, birds, plants.

The ecological problem is one of the pressing problems of our days. It’s closely linked to the economic growth and progress in science and technology. Unfortunately, for a long time we paid too little attention to the environment. We interfered in nature carelessly without taking consideration on possible negative effects. And as a consequence of this fact we have a long list of ecological problems.

THE PROBLEMS OF OUR PLANET VOCABULARY � rare plants and animals – they are not common, not numerous, and as a result they are valuable. � poisoned – harmful for our health because it contains chemicals. � pollution – poisonous or dirty substances that are polluting air, water and land. � destruction – the state when something(the forests) is damaged. And as a result it is completely ruined or does not exist any more. � living creatures – people, animals, birds, insects that live on the planet. � industrial waste – material which has been used in a factory and is no longer wanted. � fumes – unhealthy smoke and gases that are produced by cars, factories, fires.

Forests are home to a great number of living creatures. Now the trees are cut down for paper or to make houses for people. As a result birds and animals lose their home and die. 3 __ Another big problem is water pollution. Do you like swimming in the sea or drinking a glass of cold water on a hot day? These simple pleasures may soon become a thing of a past. Factories are polluting our rivers and lakes with industrial waste. So sea life is in danger. 4__ Air pollution is another important problem. The cars and factories produce dangerous fumes. As a result people have breathing problems. If we don’t do something now, our cities will become impossible to live in.
