The Declaration of Independence

-The Declaration of Independence was Written in 1776. First Draft: July 2 Final Draft: July 4

When American was young, we were ruled by England’s King George the III

But in July of 1776, leaders from the Americans colonies met to declare we wanted our independence!

They wanted Independence because of certain Right that the king took away like Freedom to self Govern.

They sent a written message to the king, asking for freedoms and the right to rule themselves! King did not Like this.

Several American leaders helped write the Declaration of Independence, like John Adams and Benjamin Franklin…

But the final job was done by Thomas Jefferson of Virginia.

On July 4 th, the Declaration of Independence was read aloud to everyone!
