Two quick examples to process – talk time 1) A colleague breaks his leg. His job is not a physical one – he has a workstation and processes information. He is on sick leave with the appropriate documentation. In staying connected with his colleagues, he is proud to share that he is finally getting the uninterrupted time to work on his novel and has a publisher interested…after he gets back from the Florida cruise he has booked 2) A long-time member of your department has been loyal, well-liked and kind. She reaches out to others when they are struggling with personal issues and offers kind thoughts and soup. She has held several positions over time and excelled at none of them. Technological advances baffle her and she continues to do her work “the old fashioned way. ” She has six years to retirement. There is an expectation that some staffing efficiencies come from your team in time for the next budget year. The leader’s challenge: Right versus right or right versus wrong? What steps would you take and what values, ethical dilemma types and resolution principles fit? Is there a trilemma option?
