History & occasion of the Speech. � The speech was wrote by Carrie Chapman Catt. The history of the speech is interesting. It was given at Atlantic City, New Jersey. The date it was given on was, September 7, 1916. I don’t really think there was an occasion other than the crisis coming.

Why did she write the speech? � She wrote the speech because she believed that a crisis was coming their way. She said, “if they dealt with it in recognized and the opportunity seized with vigor, enthusiasm, and will — means the final victory of our great cause in the very near future. “

Examples of Propaganda in “the crisis” She uses repetition a lot, she says “women” a lot. Ex: “Women by the thousands have knocked at the doors of munitions factories. ” � � � “the women who are working in a way that many people hardly believed that it was possible for them to work” “woman who has a healthy husband who can earn for her, has a right to tea and raisin cake, but the woman who earns for herself and a husband who has given his all to his country, must be content with butter less bread? ” She also uses the word, “crisis” a lot. The most obvious saying in the speech is the title, “the crisis”. If it’s called the crisis, you know crisis is going to be in there a lot.

Ex: “I believe that a crisis has come in our movement. ” “I can only defend my claim with the plea that it is better to imagine a crisis where none exists than to fail to recognize one when it comes; for a crisis is a culmination of events which calls for new considerations and new decisions’’ ‘’ Suppose suffragists as a whole do not believe a crisis has come and do not extend their hands to grasp the victory, what will happen? ’’

My reaction to the speech. � My reaction was, wow. I was glad that a woman had the guts to say something about something that was going to destroy them. I’m glad that she had an attitude that made them want to listen and told them that if they stuck and worked together, they could get through this. I definitely support the author’s point of view because she was trying to do something that would be good for them.

What she says. � � She said that a crisis was coming and it would make all women finally work, because back then I don’t think they had the right to work. So, that’s something that she said that I liked. She also said that

What would I like people to think by my presentation? � I would like them to know that I think that women can do something, especially when really bad things or a crisis happens. And that speech is what first began the start to women getting jobs. My first thoughts on the speech was that this woman is speaking about a strong subject. And, that she is doing good by creating a speech and telling the public about it.
