What is a conclusion paragraph? The conclusion of your essay is a paragraph that summarizes your main points and gives your reader a sense of completion. What are three things a conclusion should do?

1. A conclusion should restate your thesis in a slightly different way. In your conclusion, you want to remind the reader of your thesis statement—the point you are proving in your essay—without being boring and merely repeating your thesis. This is why you should try to make the same statement using different words.

2. A conclusion should stick to your main point. Do not introduce any new ideas in your conclusion. Your conclusion should remind the reader that you have a point that you have proven throughout the essay; adding new information at the end of your essay would simply make you seem like a disorganized writer.

3. Add any additional thoughts or conclusions you have about your topic, particularly if you can do so in a way that would give your essay a dramatic and memorable ending. You can do this by writing general statements (like you did in your introduction) that comments on the possible significance of your thesis to the present, the future, “real” life, etc.
