Understanding the changes

Common Inspection Framework (CIF) Inspectors make graded judgements, using the fourpoint scale, on the following areas: § Effectiveness of leadership and management § Quality of teaching, learning and assessment § Personal development, behaviour and § welfare Outcomes for children and learners. They also make a written judgement about the effectiveness of safeguarding in the provision.

Main changes for early years § Pre-schools and nurseries now have half a day’s notice of a routine cycle inspection § Specific judgement on teaching, learning and assessment § Separate judgement on outcomes
