How the Heart Works 1. Blood from all parts of your body enters the right side of your heart. 2. The right side pumps blood out of your heart to your lungs. 3. In your lungs, the blood releases wastes and picks up oxygen. 4. The blood goes from your lungs to the left side of your heart. 5. The left side pumps the blood out of your heart to all the parts of your body. 6. Blood delivers oxygen to cells and picks up wastes. 7. Then, the blood returns to the right side of your heart to start the cycle over again.
