The Cherwell School Sixth Form Most students will follow a programme which includes: • • • Three full A levels An Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Social Wellbeing (Year 12) Tutor time, including a weekly assembly Opportunities to take part in a range of other activities and programmes

Extended Project Qualification
Extended Project Qualification • Independent learning project • Completed in Year 12 with supervision • Teaches skills of learning, research, organisation • Either: – 5000 word report / essay – ‘Artefact’ + 1000 word report
Sample titles / artefacts from the past. . . • Why doesn't everyone identify as a feminist in the UK? • Should internet access be a right? • Can I make wearable environmentally friendly clothes for teenagers? • Do violent games cause violent behaviour in children living in the UK? • What caused the 2008 economic crisis, and who was at fault? • ‘Can I successfully design and make a set of jewellery inspired by Art Deco for a specialist client? ’ • ‘Can I learn to paint in the style of Van Gogh? ’ • ‘Can I build a Saxon dwelling? ’ • ‘Write and perform a play in memory of my great grandfather, killed in WW 1. ’

Social Wellbeing and Enrichment programme • One lesson every week on a Friday morning • Covers a range of issues and topics relevant to young people in the modern world
Further Enrichment Opportunities • Debating club, Academic Enrichment lectures, Science / Maths lectures, Young Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh, Christian Union, Community Support Programme, sport, music, drama, LGBTQI group, environmental group, feminist group, film club, play reading club, chess etc

How are our A Level courses taught? • Usually 2 teachers • 9 hours per fortnight per subject in Year 12 • 8 hours per fortnight per subject in Year 13 plus specific directed study time • Final exams at the end of year 13 • Some subjects have practical or coursework elements

Admission to The Sixth Form • To enter our Sixth Form candidates need to achieve: – 38 points over their best 8 GCSEs – This is equivalent to 4 x 4 s, 2 x 5 s and 2 x 6 s – Grade 4 or above in GCSE English (Language or Literature) and GCSE Maths (as part of, or additional to, best 8 GCSE grades) – There are some subject specific entry requirements (see subject details booklet)

What happens once an application has been made? • Deadline for applications: 3 rd February 2020 • All internal applicants receive a Guidance Meeting with a member of staff • We are usually able to offer a conditional place to all applicants who apply by 3 rd February. • Confirmation of an offer of a place: End of Term 4 • You can apply for 4 subjects if you are unsure of which subjects to take.
