Pages 1 -6 Summary ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Introduced to the main character and narrator of the novel, Holden Caulfield. Holden tells us about all the madman stuff that happened to him last Christmas. It is “implied” that he writes this from a mental hospital. He takes us back to a year ago, on his last day at Prency Prep. Its his last day because he was expelled for failing all his classes, except english. This happened before, at two other schools. Instead of spending his time watching the last football game of the season, he goes to say goodbye to his favorite history teacher, Mr. Spencer. Because of his concerns for Holden’s future, this farewell quickly turns into Old Mr. Spencer lecturing him on his poor academic efforts. Holden does not blame Mr, Spencer for flunking him in History. He knows he deserved to fail. ‘ Page 6 ends mid lecture, When Mr. Spencer starts to read Holden's last exam paper out loud, Just to make a point of how awful it was. Leaving Holden very irritated annoyed.

Thoughts on The Catcher in the Rye ❖ ❖ Would stood out to me

Thoughts on The Catcher in the Rye ❖ ❖ Would stood out to me the most, was Holden Caulfield’s unfiltered, sarcastic, personality and J. D Salinger’s writing style. I really like books written in first-person. I think there is a bit of Holden in all of us. His conflict with who he wants to be and who society wants him to be is made evident, and what makes Holden very relatable in a way that many other classic characters are not.
