The Case of the Cooling Corpse Cast Agent 008: Super suave secret agent Sergeant Foust: Security Officer Dr. Dedman: Small town coroner & murder victim Ajax Boraxo: Janitor ? The Sideroad Slasher: Mysterious Murderer D. C. Quincy: Dr. Dedman’s assistant
The Case of the Cooling Corpse In the small town of Pasolonia, Dr. Dedman was performing an autopsy on a corpse, the sideroad slasher’s latest victim. Agent 008 was with him, but he left for a while. When he returned, to his horror, Dr. Dedman had been killed! Due to the fact that Sergeant Foust kept a roster of everyone who entered and exited the room and what time they did so, 008 realized that, if he could find the time of murder, he would know who was in the room. To find the time of murder, 008 would have to use the cooling temperature of Dr. Dedman’s body.
The Case of the cooling corpse The Coroner’s office is kept at 17 degrees Celsius. Normal Body temperature is 37 degrees. Dr. Dedman’s temperature when 008 found him, at 5: 12, was 27 degrees. After one hour, it was 24 degrees. So 008 knows two points on the graph: (0, 27) & (1, 24) So 008 knows this for the function: y=10(Bx)+17 Because if x=0, 7=27. Now using (1, 24) to find B: 24=10(B 1)+17 7=10(B) B=. 7 So: y=10(. 7 x)+17
The Case of the Cooling Corpse Now that 008 has the function, he only needs to plug in the 37 degree normal body temperature to find the time of murder. 37=10(. 7 x)+17 20=10(. 7 x) 2= (. 7 x) Log(2)=xlog(. 7) Log(2)/Log(. 7)=x X= -1. 9433 The Dr. was killed About 1 hour, 57 minutes before 008’ arrival, at 3: 15.
The Case of the Cooling Corpse However, according to the sign in sheet, no one was in the Coroner's office at 3: 15 except Dr. Dedman. Unless there was someone who didn’t sign in… Someone who was always there… Someone who controlled the sign-in sheet…
The Culprit of the Case! Sgt. Foust had means, as Dr. Dedman was preforming an autopsy, presumably with sharp knives. U G Y T IL Sgt. Foust had an opportunity, as no one was in the office, and he didn’t need to sign in. Sgt. Foust had a motive, as 008 once said he’d get “a little stir-crazy” if he had his job. Maybe Foust got a little too crazy. . . In addition, Dr. Dedman’s autopsy may have lead him to a clue about the murderer. Foust needed to stop him, or he could have been found out!
