The Case of the Cooling Corpse by Gavin
The Case of the Cooling Corpse by Gavin Hughes period 4, C. Kerr
Who Done It? Dr. Dedman has been murdered in his own morgue, while examining a corpse! Solve the case of the cooling corpse using the data taken at the scene of the crime, knowledge of the human body, and the temperature of the room. Temperature upon finding body: 27° C. This is 'time zero' Temperature one hour later: 24° C. This is 'time one', or one hour after initial measurement. Because we know that the room is 17° C, and body temperature is 37° C, we can determine the time of death.
Mathematical Data (0, 27) and (1, 24) } 24=(10)(b¹)+17 24=10 b+17 7=10 b b=. 7 27=a(b⁰)+17 27=a(1)+17 27=a+17 a=10 y = abˣ +17 Derived from room temperature Two "points" taken from Agent 008's data Because y is the temperature, and x is the time, Simply plug y = 10(. 7)ˣ+17 in 37 as degrees y Equation of the cooling corpse and we will get a number directly related to time of death. So, time of death was at exactly -1. 94 hours from the first temperature measurement, at 5: 05, which works out to be 3: 08. 37=10(. 7)ˣ+17 20=10(. 7)ˣ 2=. 7ˣ log 2= x log. 7. 30102= -. 1549 x x= -1. 9434

At the time of death, only one person was in the building Foust, the security guard! He had motive to as well – the story clearly stated that Foust "longed for more exciting aspect of law enforcement". He also noted he "spoke to Dr Dedman less than an hour ago" when Agent 008 himself noted at the scene of the crime that the body had been dead at least an hour.
