Where does CP or Canadian Pacific railway run lines? CP Rail runs lines literally from coast to coast. The rail lines run from east to west and mainly run in Canada but also run partially in the USA. The headquarters in Calgary, Alberta owns about 20 100 km across Canada and the USA. The arrows show where the rail lines are close to the coasts.

The government also provided money so that CP Rail could finish the railway because it enabled troops to quickly get to the Louis Riel rebellion. It would have taken weeks to march troops to the site, the railway got them there in six days, without tiring out the troops. . So the railway proved beneficial to the government.

WHAT DOES “TRACK GAUGE” MEAN? Track gauge is the width between the rails. There are three main track gauges, narrow gauge anywhere from 600 m. m. (two feet) to 1067 m. m. (three feet six inches). Standard gauge is 1435 m. m. (four feet eight and a half inches). Broad gauge ranges from 1520 m. m. (four feet 11 and seven eighths of an inch) to 1676 m. m. (five and a half feet). CP Rail commonly uses standard gauge. Track gauge is the width between the rails.

WHY IS THE RAILWAY IMPORTANT TO CANADA? The railway is important to Canada because British Columbia said that if they were going to be a part of Canada they should connect them by a railway. If BC wouldn't be a part of Canada all the exports from Saskatchewan and Alberta would have to go through eastern Canada or up through the northern provinces and Territories to get to sea but BC is a part of Canada so the west provinces can ship imports and exports through. In doing so they whole country is connected by a ribbon of steel.
