History / Background of the Charity The Canadian Hearing Society was founded in 1940 to provide services for deaf and hard of hearing people in Ontario. Services include instruction in American and Quebec sign languages, interpreter services, deaf blind interveners, audiology and speechlanguage pathology.
History / Background of the Charity The CHS advocates for the hearing impaired in Canada through the support of 9 -11 texting, visual fire alarms, and access to the justice system. The CHS handles emergency situations in hospitals, emergency rooms, after-hours clinics, shelters, and police services.

Slogan & Logo This year’s slogan is “Don’t wait – check the date! Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. ” CHS is encouraging residents who are Deaf and hard of hearing to check the date on their visual smoke alarms and replace them, if needed.

Scholarship Canadian Hearing Society President's Scholarship Golf Tournament The 4 th Annual President's Scholarship Golf Tournament is a charity event in support of the Canadian Hearing Society. Proceeds from the tournament will help to break down financial barriers for Deaf and hard of hearing students by funding our National Scholarship Program.
Services The tournament will take place September 11, 2019 at the magnificent Lebovic Golf Club, a championship course designed by world-renowned course architect Doug Carrick. Surrounded by lush woodland rolling hills, this 18 -hole par-70 course will challenge golfers of every skill level! Events Record number of life-changing scholarships presented at CHS golf event When the Canadian Hearing Society introduced its National Scholarship Program in the spring of 2017, It attracted a flurry of applicants from Deaf and hard of hearing students from across the country. The applications produced 11 scholarship winners who were officially announced at CHS’s 2 nd annual President’s Golf Tournament in September 2017.
Events Cont. The announcement marked the largest number of scholarships and the highest value awarded to students in the organization’s history. Thanks to the financial support from sponsors and participants, the golf tournament raised a record $225, 000, with proceeds directed back into CHS’s National Scholarship Fund. We are committed to providing even more life-changing financial support for Deaf and hard of hearing students and have set an ambitious goal to raise $1. 5 million over the next few years to ensure CHS’s scholarship program remains sustainable in the future.

Other Information (graphs) Client satisfaction survey results very positive for CHS Following the approval of CHS’s new Strategic Plan in September 2017, a client satisfaction survey was created to measure and solicit feedback from clients accessing clinical services provided by Canadian Hearing Society.
Other Information Client satisfaction survey results very positive for CHS 550 clients from CHS’s Audiology and Counseling programs completed the survey in October 2017. Respondents were clients who received an appointment between April 1 to September 30, 2017. The survey was available in multiple languages (English, ASL, French, LSQ, Simplified Chinese, Russian and Portuguese).
Other Information Key findings include: Eight out of ten respondents (83%) were satisfied or very satisfied with the care and services they received from CHS; 87% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the high level of staff understanding and response to their needs; 88% of respondents felt they were treated with dignity and respect by CHS staff; 85% felt satisfied or very satisfied with how long it takes to receive services from CHS;
Other Information Key findings include cont. : 77% of respondents were satisfied with their own involvement in planning personalized care; The results are testament to the hard work, talents and commitment of CHS’s highly skilled, professional staff. CHS will use the survey results to look for opportunities to strengthen our services and better support our clients to high quality person and family centered care
Servicing Canada Last year, more than 6, 800 clients were served by the Canadian Hearing Society’s counseling programs. Last year, CHS received more than 31, 000 requests for interpreting services, including ASL interpreting, LSQ interpreting, video remote interpreting, and Deaf Interpreters.
