THE CAMERA Camera Obscura
Camera Obscura ◦ Science, Art and DT: ◦ We will be learning about light in science and this is a fun place to start. ◦ This activity should take you a couple of afternoons to complete and you might need to experiment with your cameras to make them work. They do not often work the first time. You might need to go back over your design and check for errors. ◦ The history of the camera ◦ Watch the You. Tube video of the history of the camera TED Ed talk: ◦ https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Xa. GUL 8 B-Br. E ◦ https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=KWIesotg. AFs ◦ You will need: ◦ A parent to help you ◦ A box (shoe box), scissors, tracing paper and a piece of material to cover the box.
You will need to make your own camera obscura. The next slides will show you how. If you don’t have all the materials, improvise! It doesn’t have to be a shoes box and you do not have to use tracing paper. Try something else and see if they work. If they don’t ask yourself why? And them go back and change your design. Here we can see that the imagine is upside down. That is because light travels in straight lines.
Please answer these and give examples. How would you go about doing that? Do you think there is a way of using your camera to help you draw? Questions. What did you learn about light when making your camera? Try it out. What problems did you have? How did you overcome them?
