Introduction to the Service Users - Jack Brown, 86 Hobbies: Ballroom dancing, gardening, planes and whiskey! Biography: Jack signed up for the Second World War, in 1943, underage, and fought as a pilot. He was shot down and injured in March 1945. As a result of his injuries, his left leg was amputated in 1948, but that has not stopped him from making the most of his life. Jack worked as an engineer for almost four decades, working on developing the planes he always loved until he retired in 1987 to spend more time in the garden and to enjoy dancing. He is widowed to Sally and father to Ellen, Grace and Jack Junior, grandfather to 8 children and greatgrandfather to twins! Jack enjoys making model planes, reminiscing about the dances he used to go to in the early ‘ 50 s, the great joy of seeing bananas for the first time, after rationing, as well as the (many) mischievous pranks he got up to in his youth and early 20 s! Considerations for Jack’s Room: • His favourite armchair and a mantelpiece or a display area for his favourite family portraits • A fully accessible bathroom and bedroom, as Jack relies heavily on his wheelchair • Space to display his model aeroplanes • A drinks cabinet/area for his favourite malts • Wardrobe and drawers with clear panels to help him remember where his favourite suits are. • A valet for his suits • His own “front door” with display cabinet containing some of his most treasured memories and possessions.
