The biography of Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Smiljan(Croatia). His parents were Milutin Tesla (a Serbian priest) and Djuka Mandic. When he was a child, he started to be interested innelectrical invention; he had the support of her mother, which as an inventor in her spare time, but not of his father, who wanted him to join the priesthood. Tesla went first to the school of Smiljan in 1861, were he studied German, Arithmetic and religion. In 1870 his family moved to Karlovac. He went to the school of that city, and there he started to show his talents for maths, creating new theories which was forced to probe them in exams in order to check if he didn´t copied them. He graduated in 1873 and decided to return to Smiljan, where he was infected by cholera. His father promised him that, if he didn´t passed away, he would let him study whatever he wanted in the university. 9 months later, he recovered from the illness and decided to study in the Polytechnic institute of Graz (Austria) abd the university of Prague in the 1870 s.
When he finished his studies he moved to Budapest for working at the Central Telephone Exchange, but he didn´t have success. He decided to work in an Edison industry located in Paris. He was very important in that industry and Edison decided to invite Tesla to work with him in New York when Tesla was only 28 years old. Tesla debated all the things Edison said, and finally he fired Tesla. Edison told him that, when he improved all his inventions he would give 50, 000$ to him. When Tesla finished improving Edison´s inventions he went to Edison and asked him for the money, and Edison told him that he didn´t understand american humour. Edison offered Tesla a new work in which he´ll be paid 10 dollars per week, and Tesla didn´t accepted it. In 1888, Tesla invented an altern current motor, whose rights were buyed by an american bussiness man called George Westinghouse. Two years later these motors were used in the design of the Niagaras Fall´s electric energy. In 1893 Tesla constructed the Wardencliff tower, an antennae of 30 meters tall which transmitted electrical energy without cables. This was a great influence on other inventors of the period. Tesla died in 1943 in an hotel in New York.
The biography of Thomas Edison. Thomas Alva Edison was born in Milan, Ohiao the 11 of february of 1847. His parents were Samuel Odgen Edison and Nancy Matthews Elliott. Originally his ancestors were from Amsterdan but because of the independence war and the military band that his granfather John Edison was from they must moved to New Scottland but they didn`t resist too much and they will moved again to Canada in Bangham, but when the canadian rebellion exploted they will moved the las time to United States. His childhood was based in working in a laboratory that he improvised in his house that he will moved to a train wagon. He didn´t like the monotony of school but his mother encourage him to read books, ussually of science. He was working at the age of 12 in the train with Purt Huron to Detroit destination, selling newspappers, and thanks of this he achived to create the laboratory in that wagon and bought a second hand printing press. He had two wifes, Mary Stilwell and Mina Edison, and he had 6 children, Marion Edison, Thomas Edison Jr, William Edison, Madeleiene Edison, Charles Edison and Theodore Edison. Finally he
One of the most famous inventions of Edison was the incandescent lamp. Was created in 1879 in the laboratory of Menlo. This invention actually existed, but it only worked with gas ( this one worked with electricity). It is said that Edison stole this invention from Humphry Davy (it didn´t stole it, nut he improved it). Other invention was the elctrographic vote recorder. It was a machine which you could push a bottom and select between two options (yes or no). The comittie to which Edison presented it didn´t let him continuing with this because they said it helped cheating. The electric lightinhg system was a system which maintain the same amount of electricity flowing throught all the houses. The first one was settled in Manhattan. Last, but not least, the phonograph; it recorded permanent characters of sounds which could be reproduced latter in anytime of the future. It´s considered one of his most impotrtant inventions.
The phonograph.
The War of the Currents (Tesla vs Edison). The war of the currents was an economic ad tecnological dispute in the decade of the 1880 s between Tesla and Edison for the distributoin of the electric energy. There were two important people (apart from Tesla and Edison) that were J. P. Morgan( the one who support Edison) and George Westinghouse ( the one who suported Tesla). Edison though that the direct current would bve bettern for providing electricity, but at the end it was saw that the alternative current of Tesla was far better. Tesla gave the rights of his pattents to G. Westinghouse, which ended in this man not paying a high salary to Tesla (only 10$ per week). By the other side, Edison didn´t let J. P. Morgan control his pattents, but Edison´s industry was renamed to General Electric. This batlle was mainly a public relations batlle, because they both fought for proving their energy was better. At first, Edison tried to prove that Tesla´s alternative current was harmfull by electrocuting cats, dogs even an elephat (this electrocution in particular was saw in a film of 1903). Then Tesla made a bolt of alternative current topass trough his body, proving that it was harmless. Thanks to this, Edison
