Objectives • To recap safe working practices in the clay room • To learn how to make a basic pinch pot. • To learn how to attach clay together. Engagement? Practical activity: students are learning key practical skills which they can then use to create an imagination and personal outcome. el 3 Lev el 4 Differentiation The 5 minute Lesson Plan Key Questions along the way… What top tips would you give someone about to work in the clay room? Why do we need to remove the air from the clay before it goes in the kiln? (Wedging) Key words! Clay, stone wear, wedging, kiln pinch pot, score and slip Af. L Starter task – recaps previous lessons’ learning points. Plenary recaps main terminology. Success points for a pinch pot used throughout the lesson to monitor progress. Level 5 Student Led Starter: in groups of 3 -4 students have to come up with 5 top tips for working safely in the clay room to share with the class. Learning Episodes Teacher / Student led Teacher led Introduce learning objectives and gather students round for practical demonstration of pinch pot technique. Students return to seats and begin making a pinch pot. Demonstration of how to attach 2 pieces of clay together. Students return to seats and continue with task. TA to monitor progress of identified students and to assist one to one. TA to monitor hand washing – once a table is cleared away one table at a time. Organise packing away – use of monitors to do specific tasks. Student Led Students are given an envelope containing key words and definitions from the lesson.
