The Best Scene in the Film Lets analyse
The Best Scene in the Film
Let’s analyse it! Pale Man is head of the table, it shows that the brutal and viscous creature is in charge. This is similar to Spain during the dictatorship, fascism is dominant and there is no room for any other style of government
Greed The amount of food he has, Spain at the time was rationed as food was lacking. In fact, 200, 000 people died of hunger during the first part of the dictatorship.
Ofelia’s actions Ofelia chooses to eat the RED grapes, the colour red is usually associated with communism and left wing politics, therefore it presents Ofelia as a republican, and as a result against the Franco regime
Pale Man’s Actions One notable feature of the Pale Man is the fact he has only eyes in his hands, obviously when he uses these hands to catch the fairies, he is blind. This is a metaphor for the dictatorship of Franco which when killing thousands of people, is blinded by their own actions. Pretty deep I know
Fairly obvious, but the brutality of the underworld and if the Pale Man represents Vidal, then the brutality of the nationalist regime.
The Obvious Comparison What is most striking are the similarities between the two scenes. Most notably the light being very similar, presenting both the real word and fantasy world as dark and sinister.
