Pastoral Charge Payroll Service: ØProcesses the payroll ØSends data to the Benefits Centre ØDeducts the full cost of the payroll from the pastoral charge bank account ØRemits deductions to ØCRA (taxes, CPP, EI) ØPension and benefit plans
Pension & Benefits Administrator The Benefits Centre: ØUpdates the pension and group benefits records ØReports errors to the Ministry & Employment Unit ØUpdates Green Shield ØSends a new hire package to Rev. Jay ØProcesses member elections and updates ØOptional coverages ØAdds/deletes dependents/beneficiaries etc
What does it cost? Rev. Jay pays: Ø Pension @ 6% Ø LTD @ 2. 503% Employer Pays: Ø Pension @ 9% Ø Core Benefits @ 4. 3% Ø Restorative Care Plan @ 0. 96% Ø Employer Indemnity (Ministry Personnel) @5. 286% Note: Benefit rates are currently reduced by 20% and will increase 6. 5% effective January 1, 2018
Checklist for first pay: Treasurer receives payroll reports Check the payroll report details for all employees; verify all deductions, contributions are correct Important: Review that any requested changes have been done by ADP (address, pay, benefits) Treasurer gives/emails Rev. Jay their pay stub Rev. Jay reviews pay, deductions LTD, pension, EI, CPP/QPP, Federal tax, etc. Important: Double Check Address is Correct If benefits are not yet chosen, Benefits Centre will send package on details of choices available. Rev. Jay contacts the Benefits Centre Jay has 90 days to enrol in Optional coverage. Premiums are retroactively deducted to eligibility date (Ministry: 1 st of following month) Lay Employees may have to wait 3 months to receive benefits; +90 days apply for Optional benefits.
Welcome Package & Options: Welcome Package: • Issued by Benefits Centre • Triggered by payroll data from ADP Eligibility: Ministry Personnel - eligible immediately Lay Staff - 3 months waiting period unless waiver by employer Options: • employees have 90 days from eligibility to enrol in Optional Benefits
Optional Benefits Employees can pay for the following: Ø Optional Health & Dental Ø Additional Life insurance Ø Additional AD&D See Active Summary of Coverage: www. united-church. ca 2017 Optional Health & Dental Premiums: Single: $36. 02/month Family: $102. 59/month (subject to tax in: SK, MB, ON, QC) Rates subject to change - check with Benefits Centre or Tools for Treasurers.
Green Shield administers health and dental insurance coverage for United Church benefits members. Once Rev. Jay’s information has been transmitted to Green Shield, a card will be issued and sent to the address on file (from the ADP payroll file). Anytime there is a change: ü Address ü Dependent/Spouse added/removed A new card will be issued. Jay Minister UCC 123456 -00
The Ministry & Employment Unit Ø Coordinates the flow of data from ADP to the Benefits Centre Ø Corrects errors in ADP data Ø Resolves questions and escalations from members, employers Ø Oversees pension and benefit plan providers
Rev. Jay has a part to play: ØRev. Jay must receive their pay stub to: q Ensure salary is correct q Ensure expected deductions appear (LTD, EI, CPP/QPP, pension, and any optional benefits selected) q. Check address is correct. ØIf an error is identified, report it to the Treasurer! q. Address changes must be submitted via ADP forms q. Corrections are done via ADP at 1 -877 -377 -4784 by the Treasurer, or payroll administrator (approved contact)
Chapter Two: Time Passes… ü The benefits started at the time of employment continue ü As the salary changes deductions for LTD and pension adjust (% of pensionable earnings) ü Pension benefit earned grows each year as reported on the pension annual statement: 1. 4% of Pensionable Earnings are added for each year of membership.
Employee and Family Assistance Plan: As a member, Jay and their immediate family have access to: • confidential services provided by Morneau Shepell • 24 hours/7 days per week Wellness & Health Financial Advisor referrals Elder care Nutrition and healthy eating …and much more.
Chapter Three Time passes, life happens, things change: Ø spouse Ø children Ø move house How do you keep everything updated & accurate?
Call the Benefits Centre: 1 -855 -647 -8222 • update the dependent information for health and dental • appoint new beneficiaries for pension/benefits • update spousal information for the pension plan • report life changes: births, deaths, marriage, separation/divorce BUT: Update your Address via your Treasurer! • Treasurers use the ADP change/update form & send it to ADP
Should Rev. Jay become disabled… RCP • Salary will continue at 100% for 6 months through the RCP (Restorative Care Program) LTD • If the disability persists, then long term disability benefits are available. Members, such as Jay, must keep their employer (M&P Committee) updated on illness or accidents that keep them from work. M&P Chairs/Treasurers are asked to call Ministry and Employment: 1 -800 -268 -3781
The Next Chapter: Leaving Employment with the United Church • Rev. Jay terminates employment and leaves the United Church. • The Treasurer updates Rev. Jay’s new address on the change/termination form and sends them in to ADP. • All benefits terminate • The Benefits Centre sends pensions option package Rev. for Jay to complete
If Rev. Jay is younger than age 55: Up to: Age 55 Transfer the lump sum value of the pension to a locked in RRSP (no longer a plan member) Leave the benefit in the plan as a deferred pension & receive the pension amount at age 65 Older than age 55? The only option is a deferred pension.
The Alternate Ending: Rev. Jay works for a United Church employer until retirement… If less than age 65, the pension is reduced for each year it goes into payment prior to age 65 If age 65, Rev. Jay will receive an unreduced pension payable on the 1 st of each month Rev. Jay will be eligible to enrol in the pensioner health & dental plan & a small life insurance benefit of $3, 000… Check out the Pre-retirement Seminar for the details on how this works!
