THE AMAZING JOHN SMITH • His reputation was one of tenacity and egotism. – Wouldn’t you have to be to take off to a land you didn’t know anything about? – Wouldn’t you have to be to leave all you knew and understood for something unknown? • It’s hard enough for us to not have our cell phone wherever we go or fast-food or fancy houses and cars… Does John Smith win this challenge or does William Bradford? I think you will be able to determine after reading their accounts.

William Bradford was THAT MAN! He led the Pilgrims to Massachusetts He left the Anglican Church (the King’s Church) He led them to Holland where survival was threatened. He was elected Gov. He was determined to not fail, thus encouraging the right to won private property. • The Original Colony of Jamestown failed. Since the property was community owned, people were less willing to help, thus the people starved to death. • Bradford realized the community effort failed—private ownership flourished. • • •
