Structure and Ownership The BBC is the British Broadcasting Corporation. It is based in London and it’s the oldest broadcasting organisation. The founder is John Reith, in 1922, it provides entertainment as well as news from around the world. It can be found on TV, radio and online. The BBC is a public service, however some of the work is given to the private sector. The royal charter was given to be BBC to make it a public service, before it was made public in 1927, it was a private company and not a corporation. By being public, it means that everyone can access it if they pay the licence fee and receive important news and information worldwide and also entertainment in different ways. The BBC is funded by the public paying a licence fee, which is charged on all households, companies and organisations. You will also have to have a TV licence to watch downloaded content on BBC i. Player. By paying a £ 145. 50 fee, you can watch the BBCs content without advertisements and have a variety of TV, radio and online content and different ways for it to be broadcasted to you.
Regulation The Royal Charter is what sets out the purpose of the BBC publically and makes sure it has independence. The current charter began in 2006 and ends 31 st December of this year. It allows the BBC to exist and serves the public by providing entertainment and creativity and it also represents the UK. The BBC Trust are led by a chairman and has 12 trustees that are very experienced. They make decisions that satisfies licence fee payer. They try to make creative outputs, serves the viewers, easy access online and make sure people are getting their value for money.
My Opinion The BBC today is viewed as a trusted organisation as it has been around for a long time. It is seen as a source of entertainment because of all the TV shows and films they make but they are also seen as a source of world information because of BBC news, people view this to be trustworthy information because they have regulations and rules in place so people aren’t given false information, which could mean they get breaches. I agree that they are trustworthy because I know that the information they give is right, if they were to give wrong articles and stories that are happening around the world then they will get breaches and could get many complaints from the public as this is one of the most trusted organisation to the British public.
