Where and When was the Battle of Dieppe? The battle of Dieppe was fought in Dieppe, France on august 19 th, 1942. It only lasted 9 hours on august 19 th and it was over by mid-day.
Who was involved? The countries that were involved in this battle were Canada, United Kingdom, USA, France, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Nazi Germany
Why did it happen? The purpose of the Dieppe was to make a successful raid on German-occupied france then to hold Dieppe briefly.
What happened? In the battle of Dieppe the allies tried to fight from the beach but because of the high rock wall and the snipers set up for the germans it made it way harder than it should have been. One general even said something along the lines of “let’s make it fast it will be a piece of cake” which proved to be false.
What was the Outcome of the Battle of Dieppe? The purpose of the Dieppe was to make a successful raid on German-occupied france then to hold Dieppe briefly. What ended up happening was because the german defences were on high alert, the canadian forces on the beach failed to reach any of their objectives. After 9 hours of fighting ashore the allies withdrew from the fight with many killed and lots more taken prisoner.
