In this edition of The BAP Times, we will be covering how the UNLV Theta Omicron Chapter spreads campus awareness through 3 primary initiatives - Live Presentations, Tutoring, & Employers Night. We will also see the ways in which this chapter has adapted to the new COVID-19 regulations. The UNLV chapter continues to build on their tried and true traditions to make each semester a great experience for their members and professional partners. The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 PRESENTING… BENEFITS OF BAP In-class Presentations. During the first week of each semester, our incoming leadership team coordinates with our various upper-division business school professors to present to their new students during the first 5 to 10 minutes of class. These presentations focus on what BAP is, what we have to offer to our members, and why new and returning financial information students should join our chapter! Through an established relationship with our faculty, we have had the opportunity to host these presentations every semester.
The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 PANDEMIC PRESENTATIONS In adaption to the COVID-19 pandemic, we plan to coordinate with the professors and schedule 5 to 10 minutes at the start of the virtual classes and give the “in-class” presentations. Our faculty recognizes the benefits and opportunities BAP offers students in their personal and professional development. We are fortunate to have BAP alumni in our faculty, giving us the opportunity to partner with our department in various events that foster a strong relationship and give back to our university.
The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 CAREERS: ACCOUNTANTS WANTED Employers Night. Commonly known as the “Meet the Firms” event. Organized by our leadership team, this event is open to all financial information students in our university. Through the collaboration and support of The Lee Business School, we continuously advertise this event, so students have the opportunity to prepare for it as it draws closer. Our event is notable for its resounding success due to our strong relations with the professional community, which encompasses employers from multiple disciplines.
The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 EMPLOYERS NIGHT IS A GO Finance, Accounting, and Information Systems students are welcome to Employer’s Night. (2020) Excitement is in the air as recruiting starts. (2020) Students are eager to learn about a future in accounting. (2019)
The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 EXTRA! FREE BAP TUTORING MAKES TEST SCORES GO UP As a prerequisite to all business majors, over 300 students take our introduction to accounting courses, ACC 201/202, each semester. As a chapter, we offer tutoring resources and services which include walk-in tutoring and group exam tutoring sessions for these courses. An additional benefit of these sessions includes the opportunity for incoming business students to interact with our chapter and see first hand who we are and what our values entail. We have also adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic by offering all of our tutoring services through Cisco Webex in order to foster a safe and healthy learning environment. Walk-in Tutoring Sessions. These sessions are led by our current BAP membership. They have the opportunity to hone their soft skills while supplementing their accounting knowledge.
The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 NEW TUTORING DIRECTOR PLANS TO EXPAND OPERATIONS We’d like to honor and thank Burkey Rothenberger [pictured left] for doing an amazing job as our Spring 2020 Tutoring Director! Burkey was able to overcome the obstacle of going remote mid-semester due to COVID-19. He made the quick decision to switch our tutoring sessions to an online platform, Cisco Webex, within days of learning we wouldn’t be returning to our beloved campus. Burkey proudly passes the baton to Paul Wolf, our 2020 Fall Tutoring Director [pictured right], knowing he has some pretty big shoes to fill. Paul plans to refine and elevate our online tutoring platform, as well as re-incorporate in-person sessions next semester. He says, “I plan to make tutoring more accessible to both tutors and students who need tutoring. ”

The BAP Times UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS, THETA OMICRON CHAPTER 199 CONCLUSION Building campus awareness is a constant goal we keep striving for. Through our in-class presentations, ACC 201/202 tutoring, and our Employer’s Night event, we are able to increase our campus awareness while impacting our future and current members. We are proud of the relationships we have built and hope to continue expanding our impact on the campus and the community for semesters to come!
