The ESIN Atlas responds to a need The ESIN Atlas is a draft in progress Its aim is to describe these small and sometimes tiny islands 360, 000 islanders live there 3 million people used them as summer homes Over 30 million visitors used them as a holiday resort Yet they are not as visible as they could be in terms of data and statistics.

Towards a sustainable island future Small islands lack common, comparable data on their present sustainability level and their measurable development capacity. They need this data in order to develop energy, freshwater and waste systems, tourism, agriculture, fishing and transport – in a sustainable way.
