Group Objetives: • Establish guidelines to achieve an Atlantic seabed map as to improve modelling, forecast and risk management; • Identify key issues and priorities on data collection/storage/use/sharing; • Identify requirements, selection criteria and areas for a pilot survey; • Increase public awareness of the value and impact of seabed and habitat mapping; ASMIWG Ocean Literacy workgroup Reporting & Recommendations Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance (CSA) Chair: A. ACTIONS /RESULTS (Non • exhaustive) White papers: on seafloor data sharing and access by Jennifer Jencks; Technological considerations for seafloor and sub-surface analysis by Randy • • Gillespie Creation of North Atlantic Data Portal and prototype viewer; Creation of a Research Vessel Coordinator (sourced and hosted by Canada); Promoted the concept of “opportunistic surveys’; 6 transatlantic lines surveyed; Blogs and other media were used to highlight the work during transects. Criteria setup (Wolf and others) and selection of three target areas (North Atlantic) for a seabed mapping pilot project; POSSIBLE SYNERGIES IN THE SCOPE • OF Extend ASMIWG area of interest to the whole Atlantic space; THE BELÉM STATEMENT • Identify Focal Points in Brazil, South Africa and other relevant countries and link them with the WG; • Engage South Atlantic O&G industry partners in the mapping effort; • Replicate ASMIWG actions and recommendations in the Central and South Atlantic;
