THE ASCENSION Jesus went back to Heaven
Jesus told his disciples that he would be leaving them.
Jesus would be going back to his Father. But he would send the Holy Spirit to be with them always.
The disciples had lots of questions to ask Jesus. If you had been there what you would you have asked him?
Jesus did not tell them when he was going away. But, he said that one day they would see him again.
Jesus told them that he would send the Holy Spirit to help them.
One day, when Jesus was out with the disciples he was taken up into the sky.
The disciples watched him disappear into the clouds.
How do you think the disciples were feeling?
They were still staring into the sky, when they saw two angels standing beside them.
The angels said: • “Why are you standing there looking into the sky? • Jesus has been taken up into heaven but one day he will come back again. ”
The disciples went back to Jerusalem to tell others what had happened.
Every day the disciples met together to talk about Jesus and to pray.
It was about this time that the disciples who were very close to Jesus became known as Apostles.
The Feast of the Ascension is the day when Jesus returned to his Father in heaven.
We celebrate the Feast of the Ascension for three reasons…
• Jesus goes home to his Father. • Jesus will now prepare a place for us in heaven. • Jesus promises that if we pray to him he will ask the Father to give us what is best for us.
