Some Brief Points to Summarize The Arts and Crafts Movement • What? • A return to a handcrafted and artisan style in regards to furniture and architecture. • Why? • As a form of retaliation to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and the birth of Mass Production
• Where? • Beginning in England spreading to America and Eastern Cultures like Japan • Who? • Craftsmen and women from all over the world but notable people include John Ruskin and William Morris
• When? • During the Industrial Revolution in the late 19 th Century/Early 20 th Century • Relation to New Zealand Culture? • Native Maori culture has always favoured handmade goods and works
