THE ARCH BRIDGE INTRO The Arch Bridge is one of the world’s most popular style of bridge. It has been used for more than one thousand years. With the invention of advanced materials, architects and engineers can create many different types of bridges. The arch bridge is still very popular and with the help of modern materials. Their arches can be built on much larger scales than ever before.
Here are the different styles of arch bridges: THROUGH ARCH BRIDGE DECK ARCH BRIDGE TIED ARCH BRIDGE CORBEL ARCH BRIDGE AQUEDUCTS & CANAL VIADUCTS
ARCH Tension and Compression forces The basic principle of the arch bridge is its curved design. Forces are conveyed along the curve of the arch to the supports on each end.
Arch bridges are always under compression. That force of compression is pushed outward along the curve of the arch toward the abutments.
It’s the job of abutments to hold the arch steady and still. The keystone piece, located at the top of the arch, uses its weight to push surrounding stones down and outward, making the entire structure very strong and rigid. These supports (known as abutments) carry the load of the entire bridge.
To bridge large distances, ancient Romans built a series of supports which were connected with stone arches. AQUEDUCTS & CANAL VIADUCTS
The Through Arch Bridge is a arch bridge in which the deck is not completely above the arch. THROUGH ARCH BRIDGE

TIED ARCH BRIDGE The Infinity Bridge is a pedestrian bridge in England. Light is programmed to respond to the presence of pedestrians. As they cross, the bridge’s sensors change the light from blue to white –
Corbel Arch Bridges are made by laying successive layers of masonry or stone, with each having successfully larger cantilevers. CORBEL ARCH BRIDGE
