This challenge can only be met by increased knowledge through biomedical research and an integrated and strategic European platform engaging all key stakeholders in healthcare. Healthcare research is a driving factor for investment and employment. (For instance, EFPIA employs 640 000 people and accounts for over 25% of European high-tech exports. )
