The average person in America has little chance in understanding how ecumenism is preparing them for the anti-Christ “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour : Whom resist stedfast in the faith” I Pet. 5: 8 Coming on board with the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church are many evangelicals who have been duped with the lie that Roman Catholics preach, teach, and have experienced true salvation. Many names could be named but I will illustrate the heresy through one man, who for now will be called “Ecumenical Ed”.

The Bible Says: Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth …. . that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. Eph. 2: 11 -12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name {Jesus} under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4: 12 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Jn. 14: 6

If people could be saved by not hearing the gospel, it would be better not to tell the gospel to them, for in hearing the gospel and then to reject it for any reason is sure damnation He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is the first part of an approximately 7 -minute long broadcast in Southern California on Saturday, 31 st May, 1997. This is an exact transcript of an excerpt close to the end of the broadcast with Ecumenical Ed. Robert Schuller: "Tell me, what do you think is the future of Christianity? "

Ecumenical Ed: "Well, Christianity and being a true believer -- you know, I think there's the Body of Christ. This comes from all the Christian groups around the world, outside the Christian groups. I think everybody that loves Christ, or knows Christ, whether they're conscious of it or not, they're members of the Body of Christ. And I don't think that we're going to see a great sweeping revival, that will turn the whole world to Christ at any time.

I think James answered that, the Apostle James in the first council in Jerusalem, when he said that God's purpose for this age is to call out a people for His name. And that's what God is doing today, He's calling people out of the world for His name, whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ because they've been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesus, but they know in their hearts that they need something that they don't have, and they turn to the only light they have, and I think that they are saved, and that they're going to be with us in heaven. "

Robert Schuller: "What, what I hear you saying is that it's possible for Jesus Christ to come into human hearts and soul and life, even if they've been born in darkness and have never had exposure to the Bible. Ecumenical Ed On Baptismal Regeneration "I have some difficulty in accepting the indiscriminate baptism of infants without a careful regard as to whether the parents have any intention of fulfilling the promise they make. But I do believe that something happens at the baptism of an infant, particularly if the parents are Christians and teach their children Christian Truths from childhood. We cannot fully understand the miracles of God, but I believe a miracle can happen in these children so that they are regenerated, that is, made Christians through infant baptism. If you want to call that baptismal regeneration, that’s all right with me" (The Lutheran Standard, "Time", American Lutheran Church, October 27, 1961) Ecumenical Ed’s wife, and all his children but the youngest, were baptized as infants. The Question Answered …. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

Ecumenical Ed On Sacramental Grace "It is my opinion that we ought not to contrast the 'nurture of grace' and the 'grace of conversion' as many have tried to do. I am convinced that they are both, and happy is the man who by the nurture of grace is brought to the grace of conversion. ” (Anyone familiar with Roman Catholicism knows that their "nurture of grace" refers to the grace of the seven sacraments ( Baptism – Confirmation – The Eucharist – Penance – Extreme Unction – Holy Orders – Matrimony )

Ecumenical Ed On Theology As the year 1988 closed, Ecumenical Ed told U. S. News & World Report that theology no longer meant anything to him: "World travel and getting to know clergy of all denominations has helped mold me into an ecumenical being. We’re separated by theology and, in some instances, culture and race, but all that means nothing to me any more" (U. S. News & World Report, Dec. 19, 1988). Def. Ecumenical Ed On Hell The Orlando (Florida) Sentinel for April 10, 1983, asked Ecumenical Ed: "Surveys tell us that 85% of Americans believe in heaven, but only 65% believe in hell. Why do you think so many Americans don't accept the concept of hell? " He replied: “I think that hell essentially is separation from God forever. And that is the worst hell that I can think of. But I think people have a hard time believing God is going to allow people to burn in literal fire forever. I think the fire that is mentioned in the Bible is a burning thirst for God that can never be quenched. ”

The Bible says: …This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev. 20: 14, 15

Ecumenical Ed On Creation "How you believe doesn't affect the doctrine. Either at a certain moment in evolution God breathed into one particular ape-man who was Adam, or God could have taken a handful of dust and blowed and created a man just like that“ ('United Church Observer' 'Sunday Magazine' June 1966).

Ecumenical Ed’s Wishy Washiness On Abortion On ABC's "Good Morning America" (GMA) (9/5/91), Ecumenical Ed, when asked the Christian position on abortion, said: "there is a Christian position, I think. But I'm not prepared to say what it is. “

Ecumenical Ed’s Wishywashiness On Homosexuality When in Portland…, Ecumenical Ed, was asked about his position on Oregon's upcoming (November 1992) statewide referendum that would declare homosexuality abnormal, and would thereby prohibit government support of it. Instead of giving an answer from the Bible, Ecumenical Ed played the politician: "I find it is emotional, with strong arguments on both sides of the issue. I intend to stay out of national and local politics while here. God loves all people whatever their ethnic or political background or their social orientation. . I never speak against other groups" (22 September 1992 The Statesman Journal)

At the October 1997, crusade in San Francisco, Ecumenical Ed told the liberal media: "What I want to preach about in San Francisco is the love of God. People need to know that God loves them no matter what their sexual orientation. " Ecumenical Ed also proudly confided: "I have so many gay friends, and we remain friends. " According to the San Francisco Chronicle & Examiner (October 10, 1997), after hearing Ecumenical Ed’s latest milktoast sermon, Brian Jackie, a gay San Francisco Catholic, praised Ed. “Ed is a man of integrity, " said Jackie, adding that Ecumenical Ed always has a "positive message. " The Reverend Bill Byrd, a homosexual pastor of the San Francisco Evangelical Gay Church, agreed. "I have no problem with Ecumenical Ed’s preaching, " said the Reverend Byrd, “Ecumenical Ed brings people together"

Ecumenical Ed and False Teachers Russian Orthodox Church spokesman, Patriarch Alexi II, and issued a joint statement denouncing proselytizing in the former Soviet Union (July-August 1993 Fundamentalist Digest). He would have shared a desire to be separate from the world, a hatred for the liberalism which had robbed modernistic churches of the gospel, a clear perception of Roman Catholicism as a false religious system and a recognition of atheistic communism as one of the shrewdest works of the devil.

The Bible Says: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Eph. 6: 17 -20

Ecumenical Ed and Catholicism In 1948, Ecumenical Ed called Roman Catholics "one of the three gravest menaces facing orthodox Christianity. ", and in 1957, he branded the Catholic gospel, "a stench in the nostrils of God" (A Prophet With Honor, p. 223). At a meeting in San Antonio, Texas, 1968, Ecumenical Ed said that the Roman Church had given "tremendous cooperation" in areas where he had held crusades. He added, "A great part of our support today comes from Catholics. We never hold a crusade without priests and nuns being much in evidence in the audience. "

On 21 st April, 1972, Ecumenical Ed received the Catholic International Franciscan Award in Minneapolis, given by the Franciscan Friars for "his contribution to true ecumenism" and his "sincere and authentic evangelism. " (22/4/72 Minneapolis Star). Ed said, "While I am not worthy to touch the shoe laces of St. Francis, yet this same Christ that called Francis in the 13 th century also called me to be one of his servants in the 20 th century" (2/86 The Gospel Standard).

Ecumenical Ed and the Catholic Mass "This past week I preached in a great Catholic Cathedral a funeral sermon for a close friend of mind who was a Catholic [publisher James Strohn Copley], and they had several bishops and archbishops to participate. And as I sat there going through the funeral Mass, that was a very beautiful thing, and certainly straight and clear in the gospel, I believe, there was a wonderful little priest that would tell me when to stand when to kneel and what to do. Ecumenical Ed and the Pope "Since his election, Pope John Paul II has emerged as the greatest religious leader of the modern world, and one of the greatest moral and spiritual leaders of this century. . . The Pope came [to America] as a statesman and a pastor, but I believe he also sees himself coming as an evangelist, forthrightly urging those who have perhaps given little thought to spiritual matters to realize the truth of the Christian message and commit their lives to Christ. . . The Pope sought to speak to the spiritual hunger of our age in the same way Christians throughout the centuries have spoken to the spiritual yearnings of every age -- by pointing people to Christ. . . Also, in countless ways many evangelical Protestants and Roman Catholics are discovering they share a common bond through their mutual commitment to the Christian faith. …" (The Saturday Evening Post, Jan. -Feb. 1980).

Ecumenical Ed and the Pope "No other man in the world today could attract as much attention on moral and spiritual subjects as John Paul. He is articulating what Catholic and Protestant churches have traditionally held, the moral values from the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount. The country is responding in a magnificent way. It shows there’s a great spiritual hunger. The Pope has reached millions of Protestants. The organized ecumenical movement seems to be on the back burner and ecumenicity is now taking place where Roman Catholics and Protestants share beliefs in matters like the Virgin Birth and the Resurrection of Christ" (Time, October 15, 1979).

AMERICANS OVERALL ARE RELIGIOUS AND SAY RELIGION IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THEM. 3. ALMOST HALF OF ALL AMERICANS ATTEND A RELIGIOUS SERVICE ONCE A WEEK. (This is the highest percentages since the 1960’s) 4. AMERICANS GIVE MORE THAN 55 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR TO RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS, 5. THERE ARE MORE CHURCHES, SYNAGOGUES, TEMPLES, AND MOSQUES PER CAPITA THAN IN ANY OTHER NATION ON EARTH, ( One for about every 865 people)

6. AMERICA IS THE MOST RELIGIOUSLY DIVERSE AND TOLERANT COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. 7. MOST AMERICANS BELIEVE PERSONAL SPIRITUAL IDENTITY AND EXPERIENCES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN DOCTRINE AND CREED. 8. (Most Americans will follow their own individual beliefs than religious teachings. “The way I see it” has replaced the absolute “Thus saith the Lord”.

A WORLD RELIGION TO ACCOMODATE ALL FAITHS WILL BE GLADLY ACCEPTED MOST AMERICANS. 17. AMERICA IS RIPE FOR THE ANTI-CHRIST.
