The Affects of a Midlife Crisis on a Spouse Not only does a midlife crisis affect the one going threw it, but it can be as equally difficult on the spouse. Due to the lack of feeling important, typically the man will feel drawn away from their wife. And the wife from the husband. The reason being that the other spouse feels like they are being forgotten, or that they are of less importance. The mother will typically draw closer to the children in the family, as a means of looking for that feeling of importance.
Reasons For Feeling Inadequate in a Relationship It is not uncommon for the husband to begin to be rude, and to tease excessively, to the point of causing pain and feelings of belittlement. Many men that go threw this transition will begin to find new hobbies and or activities to occupy them selfs with, rather than spend time with their family. Another common occurrence is that the man will look for attention from other women. As well as other reckless behaviors. In doing so they loose the trust of the family, especially the wife.
How Children are Affected Children see the tension between the parents, and begin to fear separation. Children believe that their parents are smart, wise and without weaknesses. But when they see their parents acting out, they tend to feelings of hate, depression, anxiety or even loneliness. Also school work tends to decline as well. As younger children grow older they tend to fear starting relationships of their own.
