Performance of Fellows on ACVP Certifying Examination • Twelve of seventeen (71%) Fellows who have attempted the ACVP Certifying Examination have successfully completed all parts • 92% of the successful candidates passed all parts on their first attempt This outstanding success rate is a tribute to the quality of the Fellows, the excellence of their training programs and the foresight of sponsors who support the Coalition! 9

Examples of Board of Governors Feedback on Annual Reports • “The Fellow has made an excellent progress, continues to pursue education and training, has the continued support of academic and industrial mentors, and is in good academic standing. Details of teaching (courses, contact hrs) and diagnostic work (number of cases, species distribution), are not provided. The time line for Ph. D defense and ACVP exam are close which will make it difficult to balance dissertation writing and board prep. Budget expenditures show under spending in travel. The institution should be encouraged to fully utilize these funds for Fellow to attend and/or present at meetings, symposia, and seminars, as well as for externship opportunities. Continued funding is recommended. ” • “Fellow is making excellent progress as evidenced by defense of Ph. D, publications, abstracts and posters. Continues in the diagnostic service and is working at a high level, is in good standing academically and academic mentor is pleased with progress. Fellow and industrial mentor are urged to plan carefully for an externship during yr 3, since externships did not occur in yrs 1 or 2. Continued funding is recommended. ” • “Fellow’s academic standing, and academic and industrial mentor’s support appear strong and positive. Fellow continues to progress on Ph. D projects and publications are in preparation. Fellow has a variety of necropsy and biopsy cases to progress diagnostic skills (it would be useful to know the approximate numbers of her Dx caseload). Another externship at sponsor’s site is being planned and will focus on extension of the Ph. D project and to gain exposure to R&D in the pharmaceutical industry. Coalition Strategic Plan • Subcommittee: Dan Rudmann (Chair), Claire Andreasen, Dale Dunn, Denny Frost (Co-Chair), Keith Harris and Ricardo Ochoa • Three primary objectives to be pursued over next 5 yrs – Develop and implement novel industry/academia collaborations and specialized training opportunities to support industry and academia objectives, and augment pathologists’ career development – Continue to increase the number of privately funded veterinary pathology training positions – Collaborate with academic partners to lead relevant quality initiatives identified by ACVP Credentialing and Training Committees for North American-based veterinary pathology training programs 13
