Before Writing 1. Complete the R. A. F. T. – What is the question asking? – What is the question asking you to do? – Identify the ROLE, AUDIENCE, FORM and (most importantly) the TOPIC 2. Brain Dump – Write down all of your ideas – Think of personal examples to relate to the ideas 3. Group your ideas into three supports with three specific details or examples per support.

1. Introduction Paragraph An Introduction Paragraph Includes: – Topic and Claim – Support 1 – Support 2 – Support 3 – Thesis Statement: Topic + Claim + 3 Supports – Bonus! (If you are able), start the paragraph with a hook! A hook captures your readers attention by starting the essay in a unique way. Ideas: start with a question, quotation, story about your life, one “interest word, ” and more!
2. Body Paragraph 1 Includes: - A topic sentence (transition + introduction to support+ connection to topic) - 2 -3 personal examples / details - A closing sentence (summary of support + connection to topic)
3. Body Paragraph 2 Includes: - A topic sentence (transition + introduction to support+ connection to topic) - 2 -3 personal examples / details - A closing sentence (summary of support + connection to topic)
