The 2010 Papal Visit On Thursday Pope Benedict
The 2010 Papal Visit On Thursday, Pope Benedict XVI will be visiting the United Kingdom. He will arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he will meet the Queen before celebrating an open-air mass in Glasgow. The following day he will meet staff and students from Catholic schools from around the country at St Mary’s University College in Twickenham. Our Gospel Choir will be singing for him! On Saturday he will meet the Prime Minister, celebrate mass at Westminster Cathedral, visit a home for elderly people, and lead a prayer vigil in Hyde Park. On Sunday he will celebrate a mass in Birmingham in which Cardinal John Henry Newman will be beatified (part of the process of being officially declared a saint). This will be the first beatification that Pope Benedict has performed. On the next slide you should hear a message recorded by Archbishop Vincent a few months ago to announce the Pope’s visit…
Official Prayer for the Papal Visit God of truth and love, your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light to all who seek you with a sincere heart. As we strive with your grace to be faithful in word and deed, may we reflect the kindly light of Christ and offer a witness of hope and peace to all. We pray for Pope Benedict and look forward with joy to his forthcoming visit to our countries. May he be a witness to the unity and hope which is your will for all people. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
