History of Thanksgiving… The story of Thanksgiving starts in England.

Because they disagreed, they were persecuted (treated unfairly, not as equals).
They left England went to America.
These people are called Pilgrims.
A Pilgrim is a person who goes on a long journey or trip.
The Pilgrims went to America on a ship called the Mayflower.
The Pilgrims arrived in America in December 1620.
They landed in a place called Plymouth is in the state of Massachusetts.
The winter was terrible.
By the fall of 1621, 46 of the 102 pilgrims were dead from starvation (no food) and disease.
FALL 1621
Native Americans, also known as Indians, helped the pilgrims.
The Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to farm.
The harvest was very good.
The Native Americans and the Pilgrims became friends.
To celebrate the harvest, the Pilgrims and the Native Americans ate a big feast! The feast lasted 3 days!
Later, the Pilgrims and Native Americans became enemies. But that is a sad story. On Thanksgiving we celebrate the time of their friendship.
American Thanksgiving Dinner!
On Thanksgiving Day, families get together to eat and celebrate.
We eat many things….

Mashed Potatoes Warm, Salty, Creamy
Macaroni and Cheese (Mac & Cheese)
Stuffing Bread with spices cooked inside the Turkey

It is a tradition to watch a football game after Thanksgiving dinner!
American Football! • Football is not very common in places besides America. • But…in America it is very popular!
Football Field • A football field is 100 yards (about 91 meters) long (plus 20 yards for the end zone, where the goal post is)
The object of the game • Each team has an end zone. • Team A wants to make many touchdowns in Team B’s end zone.
• Team B wants to block Team A. • We call this a tackle.
