Thank you for downloading the slides for Medical Benevolence Month Here’s what’s inside… Slide 1 can be used to introduce Medical Benevolence Month to your mission committee, congregation, or small group leaders. We are asking everyone we know to be benevolent and show acts of kindness through medical mission in May. The babies in this photo are at a crisis nursery in Northern Malawi. They are being cared for because of acts of medical benevolence that supplied a place for them when their parents were unable to care for them. Slide 2 shares our definition of Christian Medical Benevolence to help orient the audience to what Medical Benevolence Month is all about. It provides a verse from Isaiah for inspiration. The Mom in the photo is from Kenya and was happy she was able to have a healthy baby thanks to acts of medical benevolence. Slide 3 shares a critical fact about why it’s important to Be Benevolent through medical mission. The World Health Organization reports that 99% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries. Medical mission helps to change that fact. Through your ministry with MBF, women receive prenatal and postnatal care which saves lives. These lovely expectant Moms are in Malawi, outside a maternal clinic where they’ve been receiving prenatal care. Slide 4 shares a similar fact, but this time about the number of babies that die in the developing world each day from preventable causes. Many of these deaths occur within the first week after birth. Medical mission helps to bring quality medical care within financial and geographic reach of families so their children can be born in a safe, skilled environment. This tiny newborn baby was delivered safely because his family had access to a mission hospital. Slide 5 points out a specific way that medical mission works to help save lives. The training program, Helping Babies Breathe, is a lowtech training that can be done in even the most poorly resourced environment (the left image shows the training kit, complete with inflatable baby for practicing the training; the right image shows nurses who have just finished training using their skills to help a baby take his first breath). If all the nurses and midwives at MBF partner hospitals and clinics were trained in these simple resuscitation techniques the number of stillborn babies could be reduced - up to 5, 000 babies’ lives could be saved in just one year. Slide 6 provides an overview of the ways to get involved in Medical Benevolence Month (May). This Mom in Kenya has been sick but is recovering at hospital with her baby. Your congregants and community are encouraged to give, pray, and share in order to provide quality medical care and the Gospel of Christ to those who desperately need both. There’s never been a more important time to Be Benevolent. You might use this slide alone or with slides 1 and 2, as well as your choice of slide 3, 4, or 5 to tell the complete story. 0
