Mock ABSTRACT Title: Workplaceviolence against nurses: Rates and its determinants Background: There has been increasing global concern about violence against women. Nursing career, comprising female as a majority, always confronts people in times of illness or discomforts which can induce severe stress and violence. However, little is known on workplace violence (WPV) against nurses. Objective: To investigate the level of WPV among major categories of nurses in Thailand to determine factors that affect the WPV. Methods: This study is part of the first wave survey of the Thai Nurse Cohort Study conducted in 2010. Data collection was done via self-administered, mailed questionnaire. Members of the cohort comprise 18, 675 registered nurses from all provinces of Thailand. Their mean age was xx. x±x. x years (range: xx-xx). Nurses who reported experiencing either physical or non-physical violence at the workplace during the last 12 months were classified as having WPV. Mukltiple logistic regression was used for data analysis. Results: Of the nurses, ? ? . ? % (95%CI: ? ? . ? to ? ? . ? ) had been exposed to WPV, either physically or nonphysically, in at least one episode during the previous 12 months. Physical violence was reported with a frequency of ? ? . ? % while that of the non-physical violence was ? ? . ? %. Serious WPV indicated by WPV that caused work absence was reported in ? ? . ? % of all nurses. Factors that associated with any type of WPV, presented as odds ratio (OR) and 95%CI, included ? ? ? ? ? (OR = ? . ? ? ; 95%CI: ? . ? ? to ? . ? ? ; p = 0. 0? ? ), ? ? ? (OR = ? . ? ? ; 95%CI: ? . ? ? to ? . ? ? ; p = 0. 0? ? ), and ? ? ? (OR = ? . ? ? ; 95%CI: ? . ? ? to ? . ? ? ; p= 0. 0? ? ). Conclusions: Registerednurses in Thailand were at considerable risk for workplace violence in the course of their careers. One year incidence rate was highest for nurse who work in hospital, work at night time, had

Report and interpret p-value appropriately Example of over reliance on p-value: ใหความสำคญกบ p-value มากเกนไป Real results: n=30; OR Drug A vs Drug B = 9. 2 (P=0. 715) Inappropriate: Quote p-value as > 0. 05 Wrong: There is no statistical significant difference of the treatment effect (P<0. 05). Thus Drug A is as effective as Drug B What if 95%CI: 0. 99 to 28. 97? This is study indicated a low power, NOT suggested an equivalence…! Correct: There was no sufficient information to concluded that. . . => inconclusive findings

P-value VS 95%CI Save tips: Always report 95%CI with p-value, NOT report solely p-value Always interpret based on the lower or upper limit of the confidence interval, p-value can be an optional Never interpret p-value > 0. 05 as an indication of no difference or no association, only the CI can provide this message.
