Hi, I’m Drippy the Water Droplet! Today, we’re going to learn about each of the four themes for the program! Then, you’re going to draw me a picture to show me something you liked or something you learned. Your picture is going to go through a judging process, where winners will get prizes!
Hi, I’m Amie Ba… the good microbe! A microbe is a very tiny living creature. Even tinier than a bug! I’m so small you would need a powerful microscope to see me! Fire Protection Key Ideas • Water utilities keep communities safe by taking care of fire hydrants. • Fire departments use hydrants to fill their trucks or to put out fires. • Testing hydrants and reporting broken hydrants is important.
Fire Protection Facts about Fire Protection Pasco County has over 8, 000 fire hydrants. Firefighters put over 300, 000 fires in the state of Florida in 2016. FGUA and Pasco County Utilities support the fire department by making sure the hydrants are working.
Fire Protection How Fire Hydrants Work • Hydrants are connected to the same pipes that give you drinking water. • Pumps at water treatment plants create the water pressure.
Fire Protection Fire Safety • Leave everything behind, get out, and ask someone to call 911. • Stop, drop, and roll if you’re on fire. • Create a fire escape plan and practice it twice a year. • Remind your parents to test smoke alarms every month.

Pollution & Water Quality Key Ideas • Water utilities have a responsibility to provide safe drinking water. • People and animals can get sick from polluted water.
Pollution & Water Quality Water Cycle Everything is connected. When one person pollutes, we all suffer.
Pollution & Water Quality Facts about Pollution & Water Quality Utilities look at water under a microscope regularly to look for germs. Drinking reclaimed water (purple pipes) can cause sickness and its meant just for plants.
Pollution & Water Quality What Do Utilities Do to Keep You Safe? • Test the water for different chemicals and bacteria. • Issue notices and provide reports to the public. • Kill germs or make adjustments if there is anything unsafe in the aquifer.
Pollution & Water Quality How Can We Keep Water Clean? • Don’t litter or throw things out of the car, it’ll end up in the ocean. • Try not to put things that can be recycled down the drain.

Conservation Key Ideas • There is a limited supply of fresh water on Earth. • Wasteful use of water can be avoided by doing simple things like looking for leaks. • Changes in our habits can also reduce water use.

Conservation Facts about Conservation A leaking toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day. The average person in the Tampa Bay area uses 111 gallons per day for all of their needs. (SWFWMD) Imagine 111 of these. Now imagine 200 of these.
Conservation What Can You Do to Save Water? • Turn off the water when you brush your teeth. • Take quick showers and only flush the toilet when you need to. • Help your parents find leaks, so that they can fix them.
Conservation How Do Utilities Save Water? • Utilities save water by limiting how much they pump from the aquifer. • We also encourage customers to find and fix any leaks.

Safety Around Water Key Ideas • Electricity and water can be very dangerous. • Learning how to swim can prevent drowning. • Touching boiling water can cause burns. • Ice and spilled water can cause accidents and injuries.
Safety Around Water Facts about Water Safety Inflatable toys are fun to play with, but they are not meant to keep you safe. It is important to learn to swim by taking lessons. Using the Buddy System when swimming can prevent injuries. Swimming during a thunderstorm is dangerous.
