Starting School Students will remain outside • 7: 50 AM line up at designated spot at the teacher number for your 1 st period • 1 st Period teacher will greet you and escort you into the building. • On a Wild Weather Day, parents will receive a Wild Weather communication and students will enter the building and go directly to their first period class to wait for the start of school. • You must have your mask on before you enter the building. How to Read Your Schedule/ Middle School Basics st 1 Period
A/B Schedules On A days we have periods 1 A-6 A and on B days we have periods 1 B-6 B. On your schedule there is an “A day” column and a “B day” column. Your Schedule

You will have your elective classes every other day for the WHOLE year. i. e. If you have band 2 nd period on A days you will have that class for the whole school year. Your Schedule

You have 6 classes each day- about 60 minutes each 5 minute passing time • When the bell rings you have 5 minutes to fill your water bottle or use the restroom. • Follow flow and distancing markings. • There will not be a tardy bell. You are expected to go directly to your next class. On time is in your seat ready to begin class when your teacher begins. • Middle School does not have recess. • You have a 30 minute lunch. Your Day
Your 6 th period teacher will escort you out of the building at 2: 50 PM each day. Students need to be on their way home by 3: 00 PM or in an assigned event or location. If you have arranged to work with a teacher after school, you will need a pass from that teacher. Re-enter the building through the main doors, show your pass, and continue to your teacher’s classroom. Your Day
Bus Routes are available at the Main Office. You can ride the bus if you live more than 1. 5 miles away from the school. • Wait on the designated spacing marker if a bus is late. The school bus is an extension of the school. Rules apply! Busses leave school promptly at 2: 57 pm Do Not Be Late! • If you miss the bus, please come to the Main Office immediately. • When it is an assembly day you will go to your class first, then your teacher will either take you to the assembly or you will watch it in your classroom. • If attending the assembly in person, classes will be excused by teachers. You will walk to assemblies with your teacher and remain with them during the assembly • Students will return to class with their teacher or be dismissed to the next class period Assemblies
• Backpacks may be used to hold your items during the day. • You will also be given a bag to carry your chromebook safely. • Your personal electronic devices should be in your backpack during all classes and lunch. • For safety reasons, lockers will not be used this year. Backpacks
• • • Gym lockers are the only lockers that will be used this year You will be assigned a locker by your gym teacher. No food or drink in lockers Do not share your locker with anyone else. You are responsible for anything in the locker that is assigned to you. The locker does not belong to you and can be opened and searched at any time by school administrators. Teachers: Please pass out planners to your students. Students, please write on the first page of your planner : • Name • Grade • Team • Schedule Turn to page 1 - Planner Contract. • Read and sign the contract. Turn to page 17 • Write your full name and grade on the bottom of this page. Your Planner
Your planner is very useful for keeping track of homework, assignments, and projects. • Look on page 16 of your planner. You will see a month calendar which includes important school dates. • Look on page 18 -19. Here you will write down daily objectives, assignments, and their due date. • Look at the bottom of page 19. This is where you need to write any missing assignments you have for the week. Turn to page 76 in your planner. Put your name on this page. • You will record the day and period you are asking to use the hall pass. Your teacher will give you a pass to put on your badge. • You must be wearing your badge in order to use a hallpass. Your ID badge should be worn and visible at all times during the school day. • You MUST bring your planner to EVERY class, EVERY day! • If you lose your planner a replacement will cost you $3. 00. • Students will receive a new planner at the beginning of each semester. Your Planner
The Counseling Center is located near the main entrance across from the Main Office. Our counselors can assist you with: • Planning your schedule • Emotional concerns • Guidance for career choices • College preparation • Assistance with social issues such as relationships with peers and teachers • Study skills Counseling Center
You need to make an appointment to see the people in the Counseling Center. Make an appointment using the Request For Appointment Form found on the school website or Counseling Center Canvas page. If you are injured or not feeling well and need to go home, you should report to the Counseling Center. Students will complete a health screening checklist. Parents will be contacted to come pick you up. Sick Room inside the Counseling Center

The attendance secretary is located in the main office. Turn to pages 9 -10 in your planner: • If you need to check in late or check out early, this goes through the attendance secretary. • Parents need to call the school to check students in or out. We do not accept handwritten notes. • When you will be absent, your parents must contact the attendance office to inform the school (801 -826 -6810). • If a student will be out of town for 3 days and up to 10 days, an Educational Leave form must be completed at least 5 days prior to the absence. Media Center: Library books will be available through an online catalogue. Books will be delivered to students. Special accommodations for library use can be arranged through your teacher or the librarian. All library services will be available either digitally or through special arrangement with the librarian. There will be more information coming about other library activities such as Battle of the Books and Book Club Media Center
Dress Code/Lunch Procedure rd 3 period
Turn to pages 11 -12 of your planner. Review the dress code. Please be aware that all students in Canyons School District must follow this same dress code. Face coverings ARE required while at school. Dress for Success! Dress Code

Students will need to wear their ID badge every day! ID badges are used for: • Butler virtual Bruin Bucks (formerly GREAT cards) and the school store • Scanning for lunches. • Replacement ID’s will be $5. 00 ID Badge and Lanyard
Breakfast is served from 7: 20 AM - 7: 40 AM Monday-Thursday Breakfast on Fridays will be served at 8: 45 am Enter the cafeteria through the west doors near the cafeteria • The cost of breakfast is $1. 25 • Reduced breakfast is $0. 30 Once you have your food, you will need to sit at a marked seat. You may not move seats. Once you have eaten your breakfast, you will be expected to go outside to line up with your 1 st period class. Breakfast
• There are three lunches A lunch, B lunch, and C lunch. All 6 th grade students will have C lunch. • C lunch will be after 4 th period. Lunch Times
• You can apply for free or reduced lunch benefits in the main office. • The cost of lunch is $2. 25 per day, reduced lunch is $0. 40 per day. • Lunch money must be deposited in the main office before 10: 15 AM to be available for lunch that day. • Cashiers cannot accept cash in the lunch lines. • Your lunch number is your student ID number. • You ID badge will be scanned at the cash register when you are buying lunch. • Leave your items in your classroom before going to lunch. You will pick them up after lunch before going to your next class. Lunch
• As you enter the cafeteria please be sure to sanitize your hands. • The lunch lines start at the north edge of the cafeteria. There are bear paws painted to help with physical distancing. • You will need to wear your face covering while you are in line. • Once you have your food, you will be directed to a seat. After you have taken your seat, you may remove your face covering. • You must remain in your seat as you eat. Once you have eaten your food, put your face covering back on and then you should clean your area and then you may go outside or return to your seat. • Leave the table and floor clean. • You are expected to dispose of all lunch litter in the waste can. • ALL food items are to remain in the lunch area. Which means you cannot bring food to class after lunch. Lunch
• All students are to remain in the cafeteria area during lunch. • You may only use the restrooms/water fountains located at the front of the CTE wing during lunch. • No visiting classrooms during lunch. • Outside you will be able to visit and play in designated area only. These will be marked on the field by orange cones. • Even outside, please be aware of physical distancing and face coverings. • At the warning bell, students should line up at their designated location. You will be released by row. Go to your last class to get your items and then go to your next class period. Lunch

Terminology th 5 period
• All grades are tracked online using a program called Skyward. A username and password will be provided for you. • You will earn a final grade at the end of each quarter. There are four quarters. • Report cards are not printed and sent home. Your final grades will be posted online for you to view on Skyward. Term Grades
• An email will be sent to your parents once per quarter to indicate your current grades and missing assignments. • This is not your final grade. It is to let you and your parents know of your progress in each of your classes up to that date. • Grade information is always available for your parents on Skyward. Midterm Reports

• NJHS stands for National Junior Honors Society • Primarily a service organization • In order to be a member you must maintain a 3. 6 cumulative GPA NJHS

• If you are going to be absent, your parent or guardian must call the Attendance Office (pg. 9 -10 in planner). If your parent writes you a note, you must bring it and turn it into the Attendance Office. Guardian Excused Absence
An absence from school will be excused if: • If you give the attendance office a note verifying you were sick, in the hospital, or had a medical/dental appointment. • If your parent writes a note verifying a death or funeral of family member, court appearance, a family wedding, etc. • You are allowed to have 5 excused absences per year.
