th 4 Grade Science with Watson Week 31: Sexual Reproduction in Flowering plants. Lesson Standards Primary: SC. 4. L. 16. 1 Identify processes of sexual reproduction in flowering plants, including pollination, fertilization (seed production), seed dispersal, and germination.
Week 31 Lesson Objectives/ Targets: • Identify how the processes of pollination, fertilization, seed dispersal, and germination and the methods of seed dispersal fit into the life cycle of a flowering plant • Describe the plant reproductive structures and how they contribute to pollination and fertilization • Describe the plant structure that contributes to seed dispersal and germination.
Draw the Parts of a Flower
Vocabulary Pollination • The process of pollen moving from a male plant part to a female plant part. Fertilization • The process of a sperm and an egg cell joining together.
Vocabulary Reproduction • A demonstration of the ability of an organism to produce a new organism referred to as an offspring. Germination • The process during which a seed sprouts and the embryo in the seed begins to grow.
Vocabulary Function • The reason in which a process occurs in a system. Role • The function assumed or part played by something in a particular situation.
Vocabulary Seed Flower • The part of a flowering plant from which a new plant can grow. • The colored part of the plant that produces seeds or fruits.
Vocabulary Stamen • The male part of the flower that produces pollen. It consists of a thin stalk, called the Filament, and the tip, called the Anther, which holds the Pollen. Pistil • The female part of the flower where the seeds are produced. It consists of the Ovary, the Style, and the Stigma which receives the Pollen.
